Arts Services / Development

Bespoke services and development of the arts through information, advice and guidance, projects and education.

Ceramics

Artistic objects which are both decorative and functional created using clay, pottery or ceramics.

Design

The process of creating and developing an idea or plan for a decorative and functional object. Eg, graphic images for publication.

Fashion

Designer-wear including clothes, accessories, shoes, bags.

Film

Film entertains, educates, enlightens, inspires and influences people. The activities involved in making 'moving pictures' includes creating a story or identifying a subject, producing this idea as a series of scenes and images which are then recorded on film, usually for distribution or screening to a wider audience.

Fine Art

A visual (or performance) piece of art that can be viewed to express, explore or represent ideas or emotions.

Furniture

An artistic piece of furniture, which is both decorative and functional.

Illustration

A visualisation such as a drawing, painting, photograph or other work of art that stresses subject more than form, which elucidates or decorates a story, poem or piece of textual information traditionally by providing a visual representation of something described in the text.

Jewellery

Artistic designer wear which is decorative created using metal, beads, precious stones, thread, etc.

Literature

Creative writing which has a beautiful or interesting structure, or which has an emotional effect on the reader.

Mixed Media

A piece of artwork in which more than one traditional medium (technique or material) has been used.

Mosaics

The art of decoration with small pieces of colored glass, stone or other material. It may be a technique of decorative art, an aspect of interior decoration or of cultural and spiritual significance. Small tiles or fragments of pottery or of colored glass or clear glass backed with metal foils are used to create a pattern or picture.

Multimedia

A piece of artwork in which more than one traditional medium (technique or material) has been used.

Music

'Sound that has been organised in a creative or expressive way', with endless variations of instruments, voice, structure and cultural expression. Linked to the creation of music, are the music technologies and production industries

Painting

A mode of composing, representing and expressing ideas/concepts using the application of colour and tone to a canvas or other surfaces.

Performing Arts / Theatre

Theatre and the performing arts involves acting for an audience, often involving speech, movement, music, dance, sound, film and lighting.

Photography

The fascinating art and process of making pictures using light through a lens or opening, and recording the images using mechanical, chemical or digital cameras.

Printmaking

Printmaking uses traditional techniques like etching, lithography, screen-printing and relief printing to create a small number of prints or editions expressing, exploring and representing ideas.

Sculpture

The art of creating 3-dimensional objects to express ideas. Sculptors are interested in the place or space where their work is placed, and how their sculpture will alter the way that space feels or looks. Sculptures can be made as solid objects, or from light or sound.

Textiles

Crafts which are decorative and functional created using different textiles (flexible material comprised of a network of natural or artificial fibres). Textiles are formed by weaving, knitting, crocheting, knotting or pressing fibres together. The design or making of this is done by craftspeople or makers, and are sometimes described as decorative or applied arts.
